Make the Man Some Breakfast

So before Adam and I got married I always imagined myself as the perfect wife, i.e. slaving away in the kitchen three times a day, always having a spotless house, posting cute little scripture cards everywhere, making the bed every morning, always having a well stocked fridge, wearing lingerie every night, etc.  So you get the picture.  Unfortunately I pretty much sucked as a wife from day 1.  Things that I thought would be easy were such a nightmare.  It was all I could do to have something on the table for dinner every night and not let our mound of laundry overtake the bedroom floor.

But the one thing that I had really failed at was making breakfast on Saturday mornings.  This was something that Adam had really looked forward to.  All the other things he could really care less about, but he really was disappointed when I flat out refused to rustle up some bacon and eggs on Saturday mornings.  But really, SATURDAY MORNING?! The last thing I wanted to was roll out of bed, slave over a hot stove, then clean it all up afterwards.  Plus all that grease from the bacon or sausage?  Yuck.  I grew up eating super healthy...I don't think I had ever even seen bacon grease, much less had to touch it, dispose of it, etc.  Needless to say, after a few Saturday mornings in the kitchen I was done. Luckily, I have the best husband in the world who rarely complains or makes me feel inferior for my lack of motivation to be Betty Crocker.  He adjusted and we were soon having cereal or oatmeal for breakfast.

Fast forward three years.  All of a sudden, within the past six months or so, I have been inclined to make something hot for breakfast on Saturday mornings.  I don't know what's gotten into me.  It's just nice to sit down together in our pj's and start the weekend off right.  I still cannot do breakfast meat...the sausage is so fatty and makes me want to barf, and the bacon grease is just disgusting.  I've tried the substitutes, like turkey bacon, etc. but Adam doesn't like those.
SO, after much experimenting, I have come up with the easiest, yummiest and cheapest Saturday morning breakfast: scrambled eggs with cheese and cinnamon-sugar toast.  Simple, satisfying and doesn't take longer than 10-15 minutes. Plus I still get to feel like a Proverbs 31 wife.  There you go, Put Some Nunley On It!!!!

If you're wondering why I posted this today instead of on a Saturday morning, it's because we're on Spring Break, and every day this week is Saturday!  That's a double dose of PSNOI for me.

Side note:  If I'm feel like really splurging I will substitute the cinnamon toast for Pillsbury's Cinnabon cinnamon rolls: Super Flaky Supreme.  The best cinnamon rolls ever.  However, I got curious one day as to how many fat grams they really contained.  HOLY $%@! ...a whopping 17 grams per roll!  I now tell Adam these are reserved for "extra special occasions" a.k.a. never.  But he hasn't figured that out yet!

  1. Hey!! So glad you arrived in the blogging world!!! We love turkey bacon around here and have just started buying farm fresh eggs from locals!! Also, my FAVORITE morning treat is homemade banana nut muffins with freshly ground whole wheat flour and honey! Let me know if you want the recipe - I put sugar in them instead of honey yesterday and Robbie could tell - we have ordered bees though, so hopefully I won't be running out of raw honey for long!!!
